Earth Doomed by Year 3000. Everybody Panic!

A new study by researchers indicates the catastrophic effects from global warming will cause sea levels to rise 20 feet worldwide and temperatures, particularly in the southern hemisphere to rise several degrees making for dangerous living conditions… by the year 3000!
Even if man stopped all carbon dioxide emissions immediately, the computer models, developed at the University of Calgary, showed significant loss of the Antarctic ice sheet and dramatic changes to the weather patterns. The effects would be especially dramatic on the southern hemisphere as there is a greater amount of water and therefore effects would take longer to take place and subsequently fade.
If we accept this study at face value, then why bother with “green technology”, conserving energy or being environmentally conscious? Let’s party!

Following president Barack Obama’s call for unity in the wake of last Saturday’s shootings in Tucson, it would seem few are adhering to this advice. While Rush Limbaugh continued to insist that the left-wing judicial system and the ‘divisive liberal media’ were partly to blame; voices on the other side of the spectrum took the tone to a whole new low.
Thursday morning, ‘progressive’ radio host Thom Hartmann compared Sarah Palin to Osama Bin Laden saying that both engage in “Stochastic terrorism”. Hartmann’s assertion is that Palin’s video messages insight the most extreme in the “far right” to act out in a similar method to that of Bin Laden’s followers. Wow! While I may not be a big fan of Sarah Palin, to even make a vague connection between her and the mastermind behind the September 11th terror attacks is just unfathomable. Palin again clarified that her campaign and calls for American’s to not “retreat but reload” was intended for the ballot box, however Hartmann (and other voices on the left) pressed the comparison further.
If we’re to accept Hartmann’s explanation at face value, then what about violent criminals who happen to listen to hip-hop? Is the angry tone of the music to blame? Or could it be that these are individuals that are predisposed to violence or have much deeper mental and psychological issues that are not so easily placed in the simple cause-effect parameters. For those that call themselves “progressive”, it seems that rather spurious logic is being used. If someone commits suicide that happened to be a fan of my show, should I be held responsible? At this point, why can’t Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann and other voices on the left just simply say Sarah Palin secretly sent coded messages to activate sleeper cell conservatives to kill… oh wait, they basically did say that under the umbrella of stochastic terrorism.
The left and the right are like two children arguing with the left being the brat that insists “he’s the one arguing I’m just pointing it out” and the right insisting that it’s the left’s fault for the argument in the first place. Following such an impassioned speech by president Obama on Wednesday night, I thought for sure that “progressives” in particular would ratchet down the tone, but instead they now compare conservatives to international terrorists. Simply unbelievable!
Once again, all reports seem to indicate that Jared Loughner didn’t listen to talk radio, watch Fox News or MSNBC.. he was rather apolitical. Loughner is an unhinged, deranged, delusional, subhumanoid that somehow managed to slip through all of society’s cracks. He is solely responsible for his sick actions and should be fully prosecuted for them. Putting anyone else on trial for the actions of one is irresponsible and more damaging to the general fabric of the nation than anything a lone idiot could ever do.

Two teenage girls are facing felony charges following their alleged creation of a fake facebook page that defamed a fellow classmate. The girls, Taylor Wynn and McKenzie Barker—ages 16 and 15 respectively—say that the page was intended to be a joke targeted at the unnamed victim, however most aren’t getting the joke. Among the pejorative comments on the fake page, under “about me” it said “I am a huge whore, I love dick so much”. In addition a picture depicted the victims head atop a prepubescent body with an obvious erect penis next to it.
What happened to just getting into a fight? Or calling each other names and being done with the situation? Or better yet, how about teaching our children the difference between right and wrong and how to handle one another civilly? Then again, in this binary society where everyone is lumped into D and R, left and right, etc, it seems that’s asking a bit too much. In the digital age, bullying can be particularly dangerous given the permanent ramifications it can have on someone’s reputation.
I would imagine a long line of soon-to-be-very-rich lawyers is beating down the door of the victim and her family to represent them. If there’s ever a great case of “defamation of character”, “cyber-bullying”, “stalking”, “harassment” and many other big money civil suit offenses, then this is definitely it.

Arun Bhasin of London is something of a medical miracle. After being found in the street amidst the –10°C temperatures, Bhasin was unconscious and his heart had stopped. Doctors at the Croydon University hospital used a CPR machine to continuously perform chest compressions on the man. After nearly three-and-a-half hours and more than 20,000 compressions Bhasin’s heart began beating again!

Well done on getting through another good show with one hand, hope your hand is better. Although it’s a pretty funny way to hurt yourself the way you did. :)
You should totally ask Ted Williams to co-host/host your best of show.

Great show michael groff.
I think you are a smart man and I really like the show you have but I think your wrong about climate changes. You know here in south america we have had tremendous rains and floods and its still raining also the climate across the world seems to be going that way to. Very cold and very hot and lots of extreme types of patterns so how can you not believe in this kind of thing? Maybe what you say is right that its not all humans that have been doing it but I truely think that whatever is causing it to happen it is happening and we cant deny that can we? Even when I disagree as you say I still think your show is the best because your funny and have something to say. :-)
You play cool music on your show to. what is the name of the song you always play at the end it’s really nice. I love your new site you have a great web goddess! hope you are all happy. Thanks again for your show.

About your scenario for the gun control thing, say those damned idiots do ban high cap mags, whats next!? We go back to bolt action single shot rifles or bows and arrows like california (even those are very very controlled). So in that scenario you got a 10 round mag because some senator thinks you dont need more (like bill gates who infamously said 512k was all you ever needed), the guy(s) who break in to your house have custom made AK’s made from modified imports with high cap mags..
You got 10 shots to get it right, they got 150 shots, it only takes once to get it wrong. Washington DC for an example had VERY restrictive gun laws, almost to the point where you cant even own a BB gun, their violent crimes were some of the highest in the nation, most of them involved guns.
Statistically violent crimes involving firearms are much higher than areas where gun laws are more relaxed and permit them to be owned by responsible citizens.
A message to Westborough church, don’t ever protest a funeral of my family members, unless you want to spend a vacation in traction in a hospital bed.. Just because you have a right to say something does not make it right to do so, and it more than likely infringes on the rights of those you behaving like a complete ass-hat towards. I was raised in a church environment and I find it disgusting these people claim to be Christians.

Your argument in regards to you hypothetically having a “10 round mag” while “the guy(s) who break in to your house have custom made AK’s made from modified imports with high cap mags” seems a little flawed.
Wether you have 10 rounds or 30 rounds is irrelevant because if someone were to invade your home with assault rifles, you’re almost definitly going down. Unless of course you’re a crack shot with a handgun, in which case, you won’t need 30 rounds?
This ties in to an argument that Groff mentioned in an earlier episode in regards to terrorists hijacking or destroying a plane. The scenario is no different. If someone wishes to inflict harm upon you, they will find a way to do so. Wether it be ringing your doorbell and spraying you in the face or through the door (with intentntion of robbery or not) or to just walk up to a window and wait for you to come past for criple shot/kill. If however someone enters your house without being aware of you being at home, then you can get the jump on them. In which case a handgun with any number of rounds would do the job just fine.
I understand and agree with Mike’s theory of “if I can have 30 rounds instead of 15” then why not? However, chances are you’re not going to have an elaborate firefight with someone wanting to enter your home. If either party were to shoot, it would happen then and there and in most cases, I believe it’s safe to say that one person would be caught off-guard and someone would be on the floor within a matter of seconds. Especially considering that all it takes is one accurate bullet to send someone into shock or disable their ability to fight back.

PS: Westborough Baptists Church… this is clearly a group of nuts. Who gives a crap what they think, it’s very evident that they can not be reasoned with and therefore should not be taken seriously. Just take pride that you’re a much better human being then them. In reality they seem like nothing more than a legally protected bully. They do, because they can.

I was going to bring up the Washington DC point as well–but I wasn’t sure about the details.
Doesn’t Washington DC ban guns and yet they have the highest crime rate anywhere in the United States?
Also, I like Mike’s point that you cannot compare Amsterdam to the United States. In a similar sense, people like to point out that Canada has tougher gun regulation and less crime–well, once again, you can’t really compare Canada to the United States. Two different geographies with two different histories, demographics, culture, etc.
What you can do is compare DC w/ the rest of the United States. I believe that would be a valid comparison.
