With less than one full day remaining before election day, both President Obama and Governor Romney are making their final pitch to audiences in Wisconsin and Ohio respectively. Although nearly one-third of Americans have already cast their ballots, that won’t stop these two from working deep into the night—President Obama is scheduled to speak in Iowa at a late night event, while Governor Romney will be in Virginia.
Also of note, the second third party debate between former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and Green Party representative Jill Stein will take place this evening on the Free and Equal website as well as RT.TV. The event will take place at 9pm ET. Be there! If you missed it or just have curiosities about what other candidates may believe, both of the aforementioned sites will have the complete debate archived. Even after the election maybe take note for future campaigns.
Victims of Superstorm Sandy Asking When Will Help Arrive?
One would have thought that in the wake of Hurricane Katrina that the federal government and state officials would have learned a few valuable lessons; obviously that is a presupposition that one should never make. With 1.3 million residents still without power, long lines at gas stations, 50,000 people homeless or unable to inhabit their property (mainly on Staten Island) and heaps of garbage piled on the streets, citizens are wondering when the help will show up. While FEMA has been assisting with supplies (blankets, food, etc) in New Jersey and parts of New York, Staten Island residents have yet to see much relief. Add to the complications that FEMA ran out of water to distribute and the nightmare scenario continues to worsen.
Most officials believe that power will be largely restored to majority of remaining homes within the next week to ten days. Unfortunately, these efforts along with the prospect of further cleanup and recovery may be hampered by yet another storm system due to impact the region by Wednesday and Thursday. Windy conditions with below normal temperatures, rain and snow are expected from Pennsylvania to New Jersey and points north.
One would have thought that President Obama could have suspended his campaign in order to assist with the relief efforts in the northeast, but again… assumptions… not a good idea.
Also on This Episode…
– Hurricane Sandy Relief benefit on NBC draws $23,000,000+ and a number of performances by major artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Steven Tyler, Sting, Bon Jovi and others.
– Civil Liberties Alert: Baltimore announces implementation of microphones on city buses. One has to wonder why anyone would expect that conversations they have in public places are considered ‘private’, but the ACLU is charging in to the rescue.
– Worst Song of the Week: Listener submitted worst song for the week is… a lot better than I could have done… or a lot worse. Either way, it’s awful, I suggest you check it out!

What really sucks about these close elections is that no matter who wins, half the country didn’t vote for them. To me that indicates that a lot of people are voting on a lesser of two evils basis.
Totally agree with the instant runoff, would also like a proportional electoral college instead of the winner-takes-all crap. The founding fathers did a lot of good things, but they couldn’t have anticipated what politics would be like 200 years later. That’s what the amendment process is for, but there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of democrats or republicans will amend the election process because the status quo so heavily favors the 2 party system. They’ll automatically reject any change that would make them have to compete with 3rd parties.
