Nudity or Articles, Guess Which One You Won’t Find in Playboy Soon

If you’re the type of person that just ‘reads’ Playboy magazine for the articles then this news won’t affect you very much.  On the flip side, if you’re looking forward to the iconic naked women posed provocatively that the skin-mag is known for… well then I suppose you’re on the train to disappointmentville.   Playboy announced that, starting with the March 2016 edition, nudity will be removed in favor of suggestively clothed and posed women.

Playboy CEO Scott Flanders said that the move is driven, in part, by the internet.  “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture,” Flanders tells the New York Times regarding the magazine’s new look.

Subscription numbers for the publication have fallen from nearly 5.6 million in 1975 to around 800,000 in mid 2015.  Meanwhile, following the removal of nude photos from the online version of the magazine in August 2014, unique views have increased by around four million per month.
